A Letter that Pam Andersen sends to all new employees!

Welcome! As a new employee of Friendly Chevrolet, I thought you might be interested to know about your new employer - and my husband, Rick Andersen. After nearly 31 years of wedded bliss, I hope I am qualified to give you some insight into Rick's background!

Rick has an extensive background in the automotive business. He started working at Quality Chevrolet in Wichita, Kansas as a part time Service Department Line Technician while in junior high school. At Quality Chevrolet he also held various part time positions as a clerk in the Parts Department as well as a new and used vehicle mechanical prep technician. During summer vacations and Christmas holidays during his four years of college, Rick worked as a Service Advisor, as well as a New and Used Car PDI Technician at Duaine Brown Chevrolet in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rick worked his way through college during the normal school year in partnership with several other fellows in Pittsburg Automotive, of Pittsburg, Kansas, which specialized in body and paint repairs as well as mechanical high performance upgrades (That's when Rick and I first met). For one summer during college, Rick was the Assistant Service Manager at Frank Late Chevrolet in Richardson, Texas. Back in those days Rick also held an AHRA national drag racing record.

Rick graduated from Kansas State College in Pittsburg, Kansas with a degree in Industrial Technology, in the area of Automotive Technology in 1976. One week after graduation he was hired by the Chevrolet Motor Division as an Area Service Manager in the Boise, Idaho area. During his nine year career with Chevrolet, he held a number of positions in both the sales and service departments, with his last assignment being the Assistant Zone Service Manager in the Portland Oregon Zone. At that point he left General Motors to pursue his lifetime dream of owning a Chevrolet dealership. For experience, he went to work as the General Manager of Wayne Buck Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Corvallis, Oregon.  From there he went to work at Guaranty Chevrolet in Junction City, Oregon as a salesperson, and then on to New and Used Vehicle Sales Manager. After leaving Guaranty Chevrolet in 1993, Rick (and I) opened Friendly Chevrolet in Tacoma.

Previously know as Walker Chevrolet, Friendly Chevrolet served as "home" from 1994 through 2003. Then after negotiating with the owner of Puyallup Chevrolet for nearly six years,  the "Friendly" nameplate was moved to Puyallup.  Since that time, Friendly has become one of the highest volume Chevrolet dealers in the Pacific Northwest.

As a sidenote, Rick's passion for Corvettes has contributed to Friendly Chevrolet being recognized as the largest Corvette dealership in the Pacific Northwest and one of the 100 largest Corvette dealerships in the United States.

In addition to Corvettes, Rick and I also have interests in collector cars, sailing, motorcycling and Rick holds a private pilots license.
